Winter Wrap-Up & What’s Next?

Spring’s here at last. Finally. Maybe? We are based in Buffalo, so you can never be too sure about these things. At any rate, though our winter was pretty quiet, we did manage to produce a few things worth talking about, and it’s been a while since our last update, so let’s go!

Scare Dare

I participated in Ludum Dare 37, and produced a “game” over the course of one weekend. The theme for this round was “One Room,” which admittedly threw my newly-found game development powers for a bit of a loop, and I ended up focusing on every detail other than gameplay. Scare Dare is (kind of) a simple platformer, in which you are dared by a friend to explore just one room of a creepy mansion. While it more or less fulfilled all the needs of the weekend challenge, I’m not that satisfied with it as a product. (There’s no sound, the file size isn’t optimized at all, and the gameplay is lacking.) However, by devoting an entire weekend to making my own game, I learned a ton about how games are made! And I definitely know I can do better in the future. Unfortunately I’m not sure I love Scare Dare enough to polish it into something playable, so play at your own risk… of boredom. I posted a few notes on Tumblr while I worked, so check that out if you’re interested.

(I haven’t decided whether or not to make anything for LD38 yet but I’m definitely considering…)

January: a lot of catching up and prepping for the start of 2017. Not much to talk about here!

For the month of February, some of our work was on display at Project 308 Gallery in North Tonawanda, New York as part of the “Process” exhibition! The exhibition focused on how an art piece is made, so we showed how a Follower page is made, step by step.

Follower began Chapter Five! We consider this chapter the ending of the first major story arc, and it’s been a long time coming, so we’re both very excited to have reached this point in the story.

What’s next?

Our events schedule for this year is pretty light so far, but we’ll be at PIX in Pittsburgh this upcoming weekend – Sunday, April 9. It’s a free event, so if you’re in the area stop by and say hello! We had an amazing time last year, and can’t wait to do it again.

We’ve also decided to open up commissions for Chio characters who will also cameo in the current chapter of Follower! For more information, please check out this page.
